Waste to Energy
Global Gateways has developed a unique solution to convert waste to renewable energy, which is based on the integration of well proven existing technologies combined in a new way.
Global Gateways (GG) waste to energy plants are able to handle and treat most types of waste in large quantities; including the most acidic types of waste, providing local municipalities farmers and industries with the necessary flexibility and economies of scale to almost completely eliminate landfills and significantly reduce waste treatment costs.
Our specific measures are geared to maximize the re-use of resources, thereby reducing the needs to extract natural resources, and efficiently produce renewable energy from the remaining organic feedstock.
PRE-TREATMENT PROCESS
Waste is received and shredded to small pieces followed by a highly efficient waste separation and sorting process. Waste will be divided into two main groups;
The first group is recyclable materials such as plastics, glass, aluminum and steel which will be sold to specialized companies with licenses to re-use or re-process the material for further use.
The second group is the remaining organic feedstock (waste fuel) which will be dried to remove excess moisture and sent to be converted to energy in the form of gas during the next step of the GG waste to energy process.
PYROLISIS & REFINERY PROCESS
This step of waste fuel gasification converts the organic feedstock to a clean high energy gas using our patented Fuel Gas Generator technology.
The core of the Fuel Gas Generator process integrates the first stages of the Fischer-Tropsch process, a depolymerization line, a pyrolysis process combined with hydrocarbon refinery technology.
Depolymerization and Pyrolysis simply put occurs when waste (hydrocarbon source) is indirectly heated at temperatures ranging between 400-800ºC without the presence of oxygen, resulting in the decomposition of the waste generating a gas (energy) and a char residue (carbon).
The gas from either the depolymerization or the pyrolysis cracking and refining steps will contain oils and tars which with the use of refinery technology will be converted to a gas.
The result is hydrogen rich gas ready to be used as energy and suitable for conversion to electrical and thermal energy within the power plant (combined cycle).
ENERGY GENERATION PROCESS
The hydrogen rich gas are converted to clean electrical and thermal energy in a combined cycle power generation plant, consisting principally of a gas turbine, boiler and steam turbine.
The renewable energy generated can be distributed to the national grid and local smart grids depending on the needs of each project.
RESIDUES
A carbon material in the form of charcoal (BioChar) is the only other by-product generated in the Fuel Gas Generatorprocess, which retains large amounts of CO2 and can be taken advantage of for agricultural purposes.
